Net pioneer on course for expansion

Diopas is a major player and a sustainability pioneer in the net manufacturing industry. The long-established company developed and markets the world's first sustainable complete solution for the aquaculture sector. Nets, ropes and all fastening systems are made from 100% recycled plastic waste. Only ECONYL®, a regenerated nylon from Aquafil made completely from plastic waste, is used for production. The main source of recycled material is the fishing nets, so-called ghost nets, discarded at sea and used aquaculture nets.

With its focus on sustainability, variety and customisation, Diopas is extremely successful.

The company started out as a small net retailer for fishermen in 1958 and now employs about 100 people. It serves a large customer base throughout Greece and in numerous countries in Europe, Africa and Middle East and is continuously expanding its production capacities.

Just this spring, the manufacturer invested in an RSFS 8 EL Raschel machine from KARL MAYER. The purchase marks the beginning of co-operation between the two companies. In May, the ordered RSFS 8 EL passed through the assembly line at KARL MAYER's headquarters in Obertshausen, just at the same time as Ioakeim Diamantidis, Managing Director of Diopas, was attending a course at the company's own Academy.

One of its trainer, Torsten Wickel, spoke to the business leader about why he decided in favour of a KARL MAYER machine for his latest expansion project, his goals when attending the KARL MAYER Academy and his commitment to progress and sustainability.
