Confidence is good, but supervision and monitoring are better, especially when it comes to utilizing the capacity of highly efficient production technology.

To make it easier for its customers to view their production, KARL MAYER has provided its machines with a network interface. With the machines linked both together and with a PC, all the relevant production data can be called up – safely, comprehensively and in comfort. All the equipment needed is readily available: KARL MAYER machines fitted with KAMCOS^®, a PC and, if required, a printer. The machine networking equipment can be obtained at a reasonable cost using products available from the specialist electrical trade.

To be able to see the current production data, suitable software is also provided, e.g. by KARL MAYER in the form of the KAMCOS^® Explorer system. The well-thought-out, user-friendly, reliable Windows program will be available for testing in the next issue of 'Kettenwirk-Praxis'.

The KAMCOS^® Explorer system displays the shift data per machine, with information on piece length, the number of stoppages, production time, downtime and setting-up time, as well as the efficiency and, if required, creates a report of the piece data for the fabric produced. Here we obtain information on the design, actual and overall piece length, as well as the residual length, the number of stoppages and piece faults. The data can be printed out on an attached printer. This results in the clear documentation of the processes in the factory and produces a clear record of the fabric as it makes its way through the production chain. In addition to these retrospective observations on production, the KAMCOS^® Explorer system also permits a peep into the current operating state of the production equipment, with regard to the residual running time, for example – at any point in time, for any linked machine, and from the comfort of the office. Thus the foreman or production manager has comfortable and continuous access to his machinery via his PC.

All this can be tested in April 2010. Simply take out the CD from 'Kettenwirk-Praxis', load up the KAMCOS^® Explorer system stored on it, carry out the physical linking, and the barriers between the office and the production hall will disappear. Production will become more transparent.
